The Mental Load Audit Sheet

A week of invisible work, written down — so the conversation is about logistics, not effort.

1 min read

A seven-day log that makes invisible household work visible and divisible.

Conversations about who does more go badly because both people argue from memory, and memory only holds your own contribution clearly. This sheet replaces memory with a record.

What is inside

  • A seven-day grid for logging invisible work — the noticing and remembering, not the doing.
  • Prompt categories so nothing is missed: appointments, school, clothing, food, social, household, admin.
  • A tally page showing where each item currently sits.
  • A handover page for agreeing whole categories rather than individual tasks.

How to use it

Both adults log for the same week, separately. Do not discuss it until the week is done — the point is a record, not a running commentary. Then compare, and use the handover page to move categories rather than chores.

The approach behind it is written up in Mom Life.
