Cheese and apple together is a reliably easy sell, and toasting turns it into something that feels like a proper snack rather than a plate of components.

Equipment

  • Dry frying pan or skillet
  • Spatula
  • Box grater

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Butter the bread on the outside of both slices.
  2. Fill with the grated cheese and the thinly sliced apple.
  3. Toast in a dry frying pan over medium heat for three minutes a side, pressing down with a spatula, until golden and melted.
  4. Rest for one minute — this matters, melted cheese holds heat — then cut into fingers.

Notes

  • Slice the apple thinly or it stays raw and slides out. Always check the temperature of the filling before serving to a young child.
